Feb. 7, 1931 - Pilot Amelia Earhart and Publisher George Putnam in Noank, Conn. Putnam proposed to Earhart six times, prior to her finally agreeing to marry him. In a letter written to her husband on their wedding day, Earhart wrote, "I want you to understand I shall not hold you to any medieval code of faithfulness to me nor shall I consider myself bound to you similarly." She also kept her own name, as she believed that spouses should be viewed as equals with dual control. She wore a brown suit and did not carry flowers in a ceremony that lasted five minutes.
Feb. 7, 2009 - Actress Kristy Swanson and Olympic Figure Skater Lloyd Eisler in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The couple met on the reality television show, "Skating with Celebrities", where they were paired up as partners and later went on to win the competition. Swanson walked down the aisle to Van Morrison's "Crazy Love" and the couple performed their first dance to Edwin McCain's "I'll Be", a song they skated to on the show.
Feb. 10, 1840 - Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in London, England. The couple was married at the Chapel Royal in St. James's Palace. The two were cousins who had formed a close relationship through the exchange of letters before Victoria inherited the throne. The Queen had always been impressed with his good looks and charming personality, and it was she who proposed to Prince Albert. The wedding began with a procession and 21 gun salute.
Feb. 10, 1934 - Actor Cary Grant and Actress Virginia Cherrill in London, England. The couple met at the premier of his movie "Blonde Venus." Cary went on to marry four more times.
Feb. 10, 1966 - Musician Bob Marley and Rita Marley in Jamaica. The couple wed when the icon was 21 years old. Rita was pregnant with the couple's first of three children, and Bob adopted two children Rita had prior to their marriage.
