James sets NBA record in win over Portland

Miami's LeBron James became the first NBA player to score at least 30 points and shoot 60 per cent in six consecutive games as Miami wrapped up a 117-104 home win over Portland.

Reigning league MVP James finished with 30 points and nine assists at the American Airlines Arena on Tuesday. He also shot 11-of-15 (73.3 per cent) from the field.

"With how many great and dominant players that have come through over the years and paved the way for me, to be able to have this streak, and to be able to have won each game while also being efficient from the floor means a lot," James said.

"To see how small the list was and for me to even be part of that list to start off was - wow."

Chris Bosh scored 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Dwyane Wade finished with 24 points, nine rebounds and seven assists for the Heat, who have won six straight contests.

Damian Lillard had a game-high 33 points and LaMarcus Aldridge added 29 for the Trail Blazers, who have lost four straight. Wesley Matthews had 20 points on eight-of-13 shooting in the loss.

James joined Hall of Famers Adrian Dantley and Moses Malone as the only NBA players to score 30-plus points and shoot at least 60 per cent in five straight times in the Heat's previous win. He is the first NBA player to do it in six straight games.

The Heat embark on a four-game road trip against Oklahoma City, Atlanta, Chicago and Philadelphia.

The game also marked Miami's 1000th win in team history (1000-969).

The Blazers' next game is in New Orleans on Wednesday.

Dwight Howard had 19 points and 18 rebounds, Antawn Jamison added 19 points, and the Los Angeles Lakers survived Kobe Bryant's bizarre four-point performance for their eighth win in 11 games, beating the Phoenix Suns 91-85.

Bryant didn't attempt a shot in the first half and scored his first basket with 2:13 to play, finishing 1 for 8 with eight turnovers in one of the strangest games of his 17-year career.

Yet the Lakers survived against the Suns, getting 17 points from Metta World Peace and maintaining a small lead down the stretch of their 12th win in Phoenix's last 13 visits to Staples Centre.

Rudy Gay hit a pull-up jump shot with less than five seconds remaining as Toronto beat Denver 109-108.

DeMar DeRozan scored 22 points, Gay had 17 and John Lucas scored 12 of his 14 points in the final quarter as the Raptors won their third straight.

It was the second game-winner in three games for Gay, who beat Indiana with an overtime jumper last Friday.

In other games, Memphis beat Sacramento 108-101, Utah ended Oklahoma City's four-game winning streak downing them 109-94 and Houston overcame slumping Golden State 116-107.
