Roast Just About Anything In Your Backyard on a Homemade Spit

Roast Just About Anything In Your Backyard on a Homemade SpitWhile many people on the East Coast are preparing for snowstorm Nemo right now, warmer weather will be here before you know it. If you want to up the backyard barbecue ante this year, Instructables has a great guide to building a spit at home for a good old fashion pig roast a pig (or anything else).

The guide covers how to build the spit yourself out of bricks, rods, and sheet metal. Alternatively, you can rent some of the gear you need if you want to save yourself a bit of trouble. There is also a wealth of information on the best practices for cooking, basting, and carving the animal of your choice, so you have a full start-to-finish guide.

Keep in mind that a whole pig (or whatever) is a lot of meat. This project may be overkill for two or three people on a Saturday afternoon, but for a big party a fire pit can be a great way to bring everyone together for a meal. Check out the guide for more info (Warning: there are pictures of whole animals being cooked, so the squeamish should proceed with caution).
